About Recovery to Discovery Ministries

For many years now, something has been stirring in my heart and mind.  In 1984 when I first realized how brain injury devestates a person's life, at the same time I was realizing that there was a God who loved me.  My journey, getting to know people with acquired brain injury and getting to know Jesus Christ, the God who loves me, started as a parallel one.  Like train tracks that run beside each other but never touch, my developing faith and my developing understanding of the needs of people with ABI ran next to each other, but didn't touch.

As time went by and I grew in my faith and understanding of what it meant to be a Christian in the world, I started to recognize that my faith and my profession could not remain separate.  The process of integration had begun.

It has taken nearly 25 years but Recovery to Discovery is the first big step of faith that I have taken to bring Jesus Christ into the centre of the brain injury experience.  I have spoken to many people over the years who have suffered much as a result of their injuries.  Sadly, part of their suffering has been at the hands of Christians who have unintentionally shunned them by shutting the door to the church and to Christian fellowship.

Recovery to Discovery exists to build the Christian Brain Injury Community in Ontario.  In many respects, people with brain injury have become modern day lepers, ostrasized and marginalized because people cannot understand why they are different and therefore would rather avoid them.  We, the church, need to do better!

I envision the day when the church reaches out to people with ABI all over Ontario, finding ways to encourage brain injured survivors and their families.  We want to be a part of facilitating this process!

This is my passion!

Scott.
